Maureen is a licensed acupuncturist; she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the New School of Social Research in New York City. She earned her Masters of Acupuncture degree from the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (Maryland University of Integrative Health) in Columbia, Maryland. Prior to graduating from MUIH she spent 20 years in the field of Mental Health counseling adults, young adults and children.
She is Board Certified by the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture (NCCOM) and NADA (National Auricular Detoxification Association) certified for working with addictions. She is currently on the faculty at the MUIH supervising students in the student clinic. She has her private practice in Ellicott City, and also leads auricular acupuncture groups and full body acupuncture with the mentally ill in Baltimore City.
Her career provides her with a rich background in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain and substance abuse/addictions. She is certified in Somatic Experiencing training working with trauma (PTSD). Somatic Experiencing is a body-awareness approach to healing and prevention of trauma developed by Peter Levine.
She has a special interest working with women’s health and with women seeking assistance in enhancing fertility, achieving pregnancy, supporting healthy pregnancies and post-partum health. By supporting the emotional and physiological wellness of the her clients she has experienced a high rate of success working with women in becoming pregnant.
As an acupuncturist she has seen her patients experience life in new ways as they open to greater possibilities within themselves. She envisions her roll as a partner to her patients in their quest to reach their optimal state of well being. This shows up when using acupuncture by helping patients’ sleep better, lower anxiety and stress, having the ability to focus better resulting in a healthier life style. She sees acupuncture as supporting a persons journey to unlocking the potential that exists within their body, mind and spirit.
